Summary of the AcroMat Values. In the following Q&A, Courtney shares what the value "Bring Contagious Energy" means to her.
What does “Bring Contagious Energy” represent to you?
Simply stated, bringing contagious energy means being an influence for good. It means showing up with a positive attitude to support and inspire those around me. It doesn’t mean I never have bad days or that I won’t occasionally fall short of my goals. Those days happen! But it does mean presenting myself as a stabilizing, encouraging force for my team members and always working to lift others up even during the hard days.
How does this value contribute to a positive work environment and the overall culture at AcroMat?
We’ve learned over 20 years of business at AcroMat that finding high character people and empowering them in their roles translates to a more powerful culture and positive work environment. I can genuinely say this is what we have with our team.
We are a team of high-character achievers all working towards the same goals. We genuinely enjoy the work we do, we are excited by the opportunities to serve our customers well, and we are all rewarded when the company has success. Collectively, this makes for an exciting work environment, and one I am very happy to be part of.
Can you share a time when someone else’s contagious energy positively impacted you at AcroMat?
The contagious energy of our team impacts me daily. Specifically, and most frequently, I have been positively impacted by Russell Herbert's (AcroMat Founder & General Manager) contagious, intentional and helpful attitude. As my manager, he has worked hard to give me the time, tools and opportunities I have needed to grow in areas that are not only important to the company but my career aspirations.
If it wasn’t for Russell’s help and direction, I would not be nearly as passionate as I am about AcroMat and the safety solutions we bring to our clients. I also wouldn’t be as determined to help and support others on our team in the same ways he has helped me grow in my role.
Russell’s support has given me an immense desire to show our tenured employees and brand-new hires how incredible of a company AcroMat is. As the leader of our HR department, and as someone who cares deeply about being genuine, I couldn’t ask for anything better!
How do you feel this value impacts your day-to-day work?
I feel that I am, and the work that I do, is truly valued, respected and trusted. Our team’s contagious energy gives me a sense of belonging and a desire to achieve more for the company and for each of my colleagues. I have felt very invested in throughout my time with AcroMat, and it makes me want to likewise invest in our people and our growth.
I have never once thought about looking elsewhere for work; in a time when people job hop often, and culture is often an afterthought, I feel very grateful to be so invested and committed to the company I am with. In large part, this is because of the people I work with, the culture we have built, and the ways in which we help our customers.
What advice would you give to a new team member about bringing contagious energy to their role?
My best advice would be to have an open mind and be yourself. Sometimes because of past work experiences, it can be hard to be yourself early on at a new company. I’ve heard employees say things like, “There must be a catch,” or “This feels too good to be true.” One of the best parts of my role is showing these employees that it’s not too good to be true at AcroMat. It really is that good!
I recognize we have to earn that trust over time, and show people there isn’t a catch. With a team that brings contagious energy every day, always working for each other, it’s a genuine pleasure watching doubt and hesitance transform into buy-in and belief. Bring an open mind, be yourself, strive to keep growing, and you will be rewarded for your efforts as an A-player!
