AcroMat, an anti-fatigue mat manufacturer headquartered in Lakeville, Minnesota, just south of the Minneapolis Metro, is celebrating 20 years of delivering industrial-grade, custom-fit anti-fatigue mats to the world’s leading brands.
We sat down with Russell Herbert, AcroMat Founder & General Manager, to find out what reaching 20 years in business means to AcroMat employees, to the company’s clients and customers, and to him personally. We also asked Russell about the future of AcroMat and the anti-fatigue mat industry as a whole.

Q: What are you most thankful for after 20 years?
As we look back on our history and ahead at what's next, there are few things I'm grateful for and excited about. Above all, it’s the people. I've had the pleasure of working alongside a genuine team of A players.
Every day my colleagues teach me something new, and every day I get to watch them help our clients re-shape safety in ways they never thought possible. I wouldn't trade any of these experiences for the world.
Q: How did AcroMat get started and what’s next?
AcroMat started as an idea — What if we found a way to make custom anti-fatigue mats not only possible, but easy and accessible to all industries? As I sold our mats to local clients in the early days, I noticed a gap in the industry. Every facility was piecing together standard rectangular mats to fill complex layouts, creating trip hazards and inefficiencies. Custom mats could solve this issue, but first it needed to be possible. It also needed to be easy.
This led to our creation of AcroSketch — our proprietary online tool that makes custom mats easy, fast, and precise. We use this tool to design and quote custom mat projects for our clients, and it’s also freely available to anyone in need of custom matting. With AcroSketch, we’ve made custom anti-fatigue mats as fast, easy and cost efficient as buying off-the-shelf.
As we look ahead here at AcroMat, it's exciting to be on the forefront of innovation in the anti-fatigue mat industry. We recently launched AcroSketch 2.0, introducing more features like curves and custom safety messages, and we are working every day to improve this tool while also delivering mats that perform in our clients’ facilities for years without interruption.
When you marry custom with quality, the possibilities for improving health, safety, productivity, and even morale in the workplace are limitless. Our growth shows there is a real hunger for premium mats that fit, and we’re thrilled to continue serving our clients in this way.
